LIVE: The
Histrionics (Australien)
Partytaugliche
Art-Rock-Band aus Australien, die sich v.a. der textlichen Dekonstruktion
von AC/DC-Hadern wie auch Pink Floyd-Klassikern und ähnlichen
Greueltaten annimmt.
EINTRITT
FREI!
The
brainchild of Australian artist Danius Kesminas, The Histrionics perform
faithful renditions of familiar rock/pop classics re-interpreted with
new lyrics penned by Kesminas. These re-interpretations position each
song within the history, discourse, controversy and rumour of the
art world. FM classics become a comic look at the world of contemporary
art in all its earnest, self-congratulatory glory.
The
Histrionics perform highly charged and animated live shows, their
stage appearances are part performance art and part parody, while
also adhering to well worn and much loved rock’n’roll
parameters. Appearing in custom-made Jackson Pollock drip suits, the
band are accompanied by an overhead projected backdrop displaying
the re-written lyrics for those who wish to sing a long.
The
Histrionics continue Danius Kesminas’ exploration of the boundaries
between contemporary art and popular music and attempting to connect
their often divergent audiences.
Art
is the message, music the medium.
The
Histrionics’ repertoire includes AC/DC’s classic T.N.T.,
reworked as Nam June Paik in celebration of the legendary Korean Fluxus
“grandpa”; The Gridder uses Steve Miller’s The Joker
as a platform for Carl Andre’s response to charges of murdering
his wife, artist Ana Mendieta.
Pink
Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall revisits the Richard Serra
Tilted Arc controversy in Useless Steel in the Mall; My Sharona by
the The Knack becomes On Kawara, a meditation upon the methodology
of the American/Japanese conceptualist who has devoted his practice
to the marking of time, while 10CC’s Dreadlock Holiday becomes
Pad Thai Takeaway a celebration of the Thai curator, artist and cook,
Rirkrit Tiravanija.
The
Histrionics have released two albums and undertaken two European tours
(2003 and 2004) as well as playing extensively in Australia. The first
album Never Mind the Pollock’s - Here’s The Histrionics
was released in 2002 and Museum Fatigue was released in 2004. The
forthcoming, as yet untitled third studio album will be launched during
their June 2007 European tour.
