Catarina Pratter, Viennese artist, DJ and electro musician explores the piano, transplanting house chords & techno monotony into an unfamiliar environment. An invitation to search for the grammar of music and to explore the simple question: How( much) minimal can it be?

The peculiarity of the piece “Impressions of a Me” lies in the fact that the piano and the electronic sounds form a unity, like when several musicians - for example a quartet - play together. The pianist controls the whole piece with his keystrokes - not only the sound of the piano but all tracks like arpeggios, textures, strings, ambience and many more.

The sound design and the decision, when which sounds are to be heard, is the task of the electronic musician: Even whether the actual piano sound is still to be heard, although the pianist is playing….

Catarina Pratter is part of the Viennese electronic scene as producer, DJ and now composer since 1996. She released among others as “ca.tter” and “550rondy” EPs and albums on Cheap Records, Monika Enterprise, Dubsquare, Sounding Functions and many more.

Die Besonderheit des Stückes “Impressions of a Me” liegt darin, dass das Klavier und die elektronischen Klänge eine Einheit, wie ein etwa beim Zusammenspiel mehrere Musiker - zum Beispiel eines Quartettes - bilden. Der Pianist steuert das ganze Stück mit seinen Tastenschlägen - nicht nur den Klang des Klaviers sondern alle Spuren wie Arpeggios, Textures, Strings, Ambience u.v.m

Das SoundDesign und die Entscheidung, wann welche Klänge zu hören sind, ist Aufgabe der Elektronikmusikerin: Selbst ob der eigentliche Klaiverklang noch zu hören ist, obwohl der Pianist doch spielt….
