20:00 - LIVE: The Blue Stones - Pretty Monster Tour

AprilNur wenige Debütalben kommen so vollendet daher wie “Black Holes” (2015) vom kanadischen Duo The Blue Stones, das 2018 re-released wurde und ihnen eine JUNO-Nominierung in der Kategorie “Breakthrough Group of the Year” bescherte. Tatsächlich aber haben sich Tarek Jafar und Justin Tessier lange vorbereitet für die große Weltbühne und trotzen bei ihren mitreißenden Live-Shows von Anfang an den Gesetzen der Physik. Dass der massive Sound, den sie regelmäßig auch bei ihren Konzerten erzeugen, von lediglich zwei Menschen kommt, scheint teilweise nicht nachvollziehbar. Zwischen bluesigen Harmonien und einem dynamischen Umfang - der von leisem Flüstern bis zu maximal lauten Ausbrüchen reicht - entwickelt sich eine Klangvielfalt, die genauso überrascht wie die abgeklärte Coolness, mit der Jafar und Tessier zu Werke gehen.
Nach dem Erfolg von “Black Holes” und intensivem Touren veröffentlichten sie 2021 dann ihr Nachfolgewerk “Hidden Gems” (das in Kanada drei Top-5-Radiohits hervorgebracht hat), mit dem sie bewiesen, dass sie selbiges längst nicht mehr sind: ein Geheimtipp nämlich bzw. ein verstecktes Juwel! Und das kürzlich veröffentlichte dritte Werk - “Pretty Monster” - schlägt in eine ähnliche Kerbe. Darauf bauen sie gleichzeitig das starke Songwriting und den klanglichen Einfallsreichtum aus, versuchen aber auch die brennende Energie ihrer Live-Sets einzufangen. Denn trotz des kolossalen Wachstums, das sie seit ihren frühen Anfängen in den Spelunken ihrer Heimatstadt erfahren haben, versprüht das Duo in jedem Song jene ungebremste Leidenschaft von damals und einen erquickenden Abenteuergeist.
Entstanden in einem abgelegenen Studio irgendwo in Ontario kommt “Pretty Monster” nun jedenfalls als triumphales Werk daher, das die Dynamik des Rock’n’Roll mit eingängigen Pop-Hooks verbindet - eine auffällige Abkehr vom eher atmosphärischen Sound vom Vorgängeralbum.
Wir freuen uns auf die Live-Darbietung neuer und alter Blue Stones-Hits und auf die unglaubliche Bühnenpräsenz des kanadischen Alternative-Rock-Duos - im April darf im Wiener Fluc wieder gestaunt werden.

Few debut albums come across as accomplished as “Black Holes” (2015) from Canadian duo The Blue Stones, which was re-released in 2018 and earned them a JUNO nomination in the Breakthrough Group of the Year category. But in fact, Tarek Jafar and Justin Tessier have been preparing for the big world stage for a long time, defying the laws of physics from the start during their rousing live shows. The fact that the massive sound they regularly produce at their concerts comes from just two people seems incomprehensible at times. Between bluesy harmonies and a dynamic range - from quiet whispers to maximum loud outbursts - a variety of sounds develops that is just as surprising as the detached coolness with which Jafar and Tessier go about their work.
After the success of “Black Holes” and intensive touring, they released their follow-up album “Hidden Gems” in 2021 (which produced three Top 5 radio hits in Canada), with which they proved that they are no longer just that: an insider tip or a hidden gem! And the recently released third work - “Pretty Monster” - strikes in a similar notch. On it, they simultaneously build on the strong songwriting and sonic ingenuity, but also try to capture the burning energy of their live sets. For despite the colossal growth they’ve experienced since their early beginnings in the dive bars of their hometown, the duo exudes that unbridled passion of yesteryear and an invigorating spirit of adventure in every song.
Recorded in a remote studio somewhere in Ontario, “Pretty Monster” is a triumphant work that combines the dynamics of rock’n’roll with catchy pop hooks - a striking departure from the more atmospheric sound of the previous album.
